This year’s creepy yard’s new idea was less about creature innovation and more about improved presentation and easier maintenance. I strung up a bunch of nylon ropes high above to serve as a kind of scaffolding to hang creatures, as opposed to planting them all in the ground. This not only raised the sightline of the yard for those viewing from the street, but it also allowed lighter creatures that utilized less PVC and fabric. The idea was also to be less vulnerable to wind and water, which along with gravity I’m always battling with what I’ve set up.
The idea seems to have worked, rendering the yard creations more visible, so the idea seems to have worked.
The poodle skirt Momo-faced twins are the outcome of an idea I originally had but ended up abandoning- an alien mental asylum where the inmates were mounting a production of the musical “Grease.” Also downstream from this idea, the soundtrack to this year’s creepy yard will be mournful doo-wop. The tall skinny suited thing was my run at creating a “slender man” variation, which looks more like a stretched-out baby from Lynch’s “Eraserhead.”
